Beyond Rooftop solar

Evidence from similar communities suggests rooftop solar PV will only be able to meet 50% or less of our communities’ needs. Beyond this SOS is exploring other mid-scale options. These include solar, wind, wave, community battery, pumped hydro storage and microgrids. A short explanation of each option can be found on our Learn More page.

The Southern Otways Renewable Energy Roadmap

In 2019 SOS won a $10,000 grant for the Colac Otway Shire to develop a renewable energy roadmap for the Southern Otways. The views of the community towards options for renewable energy have been sought at 2 virtual workshops and a survey to the broader community.

Due in September 2020, the final document explores the opportunities and challenges from both the technical and social perspectives.

Please get in touch if you'd like to lend your support in any way - volunteering, investing in energy efficiency or renewable energy projects for your home or business, suggestions or have any questions.

SOS operates on the traditional lands of the Gadubanud and Gulidjan people of the Eastern Maar Nation.  We understand their land was never ceded and that reconciliation cannot happen without acknowledging the truth around those events. We pay our respects to all First Nation Elders past, present and those emerging.
